Starting a New Chapter

There’s a reason we call graduation “commencement.” It shouldn’t be regarded as an end to college, but the beginning of a new chapter, the veritable start of one’s independent life. In fact, at the moment I don’t feel inclined toward reminiscence or nostalgia at all, although I’m sure I will at some point in the near future. I take comfort in the fact that these were not the best four years of my life. Oh, there were moments of beauty. But they were standouts against a background of banality punctuated by periods of intense stress and upheaval. I feel certain that this is not my “peak”, that the best is yet to come. And this is why I am excited to start this new chapter, rather than being sad about closing the preceding one.
